Common medications and their cat doses. We're not vets, but we always double check the doses given to us by the vet. This is a working list, and more will be added later. Another post will be made discussing the actual use of these medications.
Discuss any concerns with your vet and don't use this as medical advice! Baytril: Do not exceed 5mg/kg a day. Any more than this has been shown to cause retinal failure in cats. (you could blind your cats!) Do not use for more than 2 weeks. Not for minor infections. Clavamox6.25mg/lb every 12 hours for 2-3 weeks depending on the infection. Doxycycline: 10mg/kg once a day, typically for 14 days. (not for use in pregnant or nursing animals). Drontal: Not for use in cats under 4 weeks or under 1.5 lbs. Not for use in pregnant cats. Single dose. 1.5-1.9 lbs - 1/4 tablet, 2-3 lbs - 1/2 tablet, 4-8 lbs - 1 tablet, 9-12 lbs - 1 1/2 tablets 13-16 lbs - 2 tablets. Lutalyse: 0.1mg/kg once or twice daily for 5 days. Metronidazole: 5.5-11.5 mg/lb twice daily for 5 days. Panacur: 50mg/kg once a day for 3 days. Prednisolone: 2.2-6.6 mg/kg. Once a cat starts taking this, treatment has to be weaned. Do not end abruptly. Tinidazole: 30mg/kg a day for 14 days. Zithromax: 20mg/kg Dosage varies from vet to vet. Some say one dose. Some say one does a week for 2 weeks and others say one dose per day for 2 to 5 days.
