Is she pregnant?
Many breeders have at one point or another, wondered if their queen was actually pregnant. While it is almost impossible to tell if a cat is pregnant before she starts getting big, by just looking at her, there is are a few ways that will help lead one to the correct answer.
Most queens tend to do what we call "pink up" at about 3 to 4 weeks after being bred. (21 days) This means that if you look at the underside of a queen, her nipples should be a pink color that is much pinker than normal and slightly larger. Although this is a sure sign she is pregnant, it isn't the only way to tell:
Pregnant queens look a bit larger and distended in the middle.
Pregnant queens usually become more affectionate. (This point doesn't help much for those of us who have overly affectionate cats!)
NEVER poke and prod at your cat's tummy to feel for kittens. You might cause her to lose them or cause a still birth when it comes time to deliver.
There you have it. Short and in a nutshell!
