Default New test!

There is a new PCR DNA test that can tell you what KIND of uri your cat/kitten has ... results MUCH faster than a culture. This is a great tool to use especially if you bring home a uri from a show and it starts to spread around the cattery in spite of best precautions. There is only 1 lab that does it right now, but I told my vet about it and he had info in a short time.
It was very valuable to 2 friends who had kittens with uris that were not responding to other meds ... turned out the kittens had micoplasma which only responds to Doxycycline. The kittens are fine now, thanks to this test!

We'd love more information on that test

Who makes it and who do you send it to for tests?

It's not a test that a breeder can do themselves, it's a test that the vet has to do. I think it just needs a cheek swab, not a blood draw. I can't recall the name of the lab that does it, so I'll have to ask my vet for the info. He's on vacation now and will be back about the 11th of Feb, so I'll get the info and report back about mid-month.

That may be the right test, I'm not sure, but it is a different lab than the one I know about. The one my vet read about is Idexx Lab, I think it is in Maine.
